The 48th Annual World Ag Expo

The 48th Annual World Ag Expo officially kicked off at 9:00 a.m. this morning.

The largest annual agricultural exposition of its kind, World Ag Expo touts more than 1,500 exhibitors who display cutting-edge agricultural technology and equipment on 2.6 million square feet of show grounds. An estimated average of 100,000 individuals from 70 countries attend the show each year to learn about the latest advances in agriculture.

More than 35 seminars are offered in beef, dairy, hay and forage, international trade, irrigation and general agriculture categories. Seminars presented by professionals in the industry provide attendees with valuable information to improve their operations.

“From the locally-focused ag tours to the international attendees, World Ag Expo strives to live up to its name every year,” says Jerry Sinift, International Agri-Center’s chief executive officer. “Even as we grow and change, we remain grounded in the idea that agriculture is an invaluable asset to our communities and to the growing world. World Ag Expo attendees can get the latest news, information and updates about the show by downloading the new 2015 mobile app. The free app provides mobile access to the schedule of events, an exhibitor directory, map of the show grounds and other visitor resources. CAPCA ANNOUNCES GARY SCHULZ NEXT CEO/PRESIDENT

The California Association of Pest Control Advisers (CAPCA) Chair, Jeremy Briscoe, has announced the hiring of Mr. Gary Schulz as the next Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Schulz succeeds retiring CEO Terry W. Stark, effective February 1, 2015.

Gary Schulz departs his current position as President/General Manager of the Raisin Federal and State Marketing Orders responsible for program research, marketing and compliance with the orders. Prior to his six years with raisins, Mr. Schulz managed the International Agri-Center, Inc. and the World AG Expo in Tulare from 1990-2005. The World AG Expo doubled in size under his leadership from 700 exhibitors to over 1,500 with over 2 million square feet of exhibits.

Established in 1975, CAPCA represents 75% of the 4,000 California EPA licensed pest control advisers (PCAs) that provide pest management consultation for the production of food, fiber, and ornamental industries of this state. CAPCA’s purpose is to serve as the leader in the evolution of the pest management industry through the communications of reliable information. CAPCA is dedicated to professional development and enhancement of our members’ education and stewardship which includes legislative, regulatory, continuing education and public outreach activities.

World Ag Expo Offers $3,000 Grand Prize for Video Contest

World Ag Expo is calling for video submissions to tell the story of agriculture for a chance to win $3,000. The contest will focus on the theme, “Where Would We Be Without Farmers?”

Entrants are asked to tell the story of agriculture and the people who work to provide the products we enjoy. Entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges. The top videos will be posted at www.WorldAgExpo.org and the public will vote for their favorites beginning in December 2014.

“Farmers play an integral role in every part of our lives,” said Jerry Sinift, chief executive officer of the International Agri-Center. “We’re asking for talented individuals to portray the connection between farmers and the world they feed and clothe.”

The winner will be announced on January 30, 2015 and awarded the $3,000 cash prize. The top video will be posted on World Ag Expo’s website; will play during the show, February 10-12, 2015 in Tulare, California and the winner will be recognized at World Ag Expo.

To enter, upload your video to your own YouTube or Vimeo account and complete the online entry form on the World Ag Expo website. Videos must be at least 30 seconds long and may not exceed six minutes. Anyone of any age is eligible to enter. All videos must be submitted by December 1, 2014. Water Rally in Tulare Needs You!

Mario Santoyo, Executive Director of California Latino Water Coalition, announced a Water Rally on Wednesday, March 26th in Tulare. We urge everyone with agricultural water interests to attend and advocate for increased water allocations!

You all are very aware of the water crisis that has been plaguing the West Side farmers due to federal pumping restrictions, well now with this year’s historic drought combined with those same pumping restrictions the East Side farmers will be in the same crisis condition.

The only hope for farmers on both sides of this Valley to survive this year is a change in the Delta Operations by both the State and Federal governments in order to maximize the flexibilities they have under this crisis to deliver more water south of the Delta, so an upcoming rally is intended to send that message.
